Each cemetery has its own set of unique rules, requirements and restrictions dealing with memorialization. A cemetery may have different rules or requirements for each section. These rules will often determine the following:

• The size of the memorial
• The acceptable materials for the memorial
• The shape
• The color
• The direction the memorial will face (towards the grave or away from the grave)
